Annie Baker’s work crashed into my life last spring when I reviewed two Boston productions of her work: Boston College’s Circle Mirror Transformation, and the New England premiere of The Flick from Company One.
The latter particularly grabbed my attention. Set in an old New England movie theatre that has yet to go digital, the play follows three theatre employees exchanging stories, laughs, silences, secrets, and metaphorical blows with humorous and devastating results. I was thrilled to find out that Baker won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her new play.
The play has been published recently, and is available in stores. Though it is amazing to see on the stage, be sure to check out the book. Can’t wait to see what Baker does next.
